4ç Meeting of Subgroup 2 (WG2) of the Technical Committee C3.3

(Thessaloniki 15-16 September 2005)

The 4th meeting of the members of WG2-"Management of Tunnel Safety" was held on 15-16/9/2005 in Thessaloniki. WG2 of TC3.3/PIARC works for the period 2004-2007 on the basis of an approved program, while 5 subgroups have been set: :

Note:
*  Dr. Athanasios Saramourtsis – EOAE participates in subgroups 2 and 3, while he was appointed coordinator of subgroup 5.

Thessaloniki's meeting was attended by 18 members from various European countries ( France, Austria, England, Denmark, Holland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Italy, and Switzerland). The group members carried out a technical visit to the Kastania Bypass section of the Egnatia Motorway on 14/9/2005.

Ms. Ioanna Karakaidou, Deputy Manager of the Operations – Exploitation – Maintenance (OEM) Division of Egnatia Odos A.E., opened the meeting on behalf of the Chair of the Greek National Committee of PIARC. She referred to the efforts being made in Greece and the interest in tunnel safety issues. A questionnaire was distributed by the OEM Division, EOAE to participants about tunnel organisation and operations issues in their respective countries.

The questionnaire included the following parts:

  • Tunnel Administrative issues
  • Tunnel Operation & Maintenance issues
  • Emergency Management issues

Questionnaires from 10 different European countries were collected. Data analysis is in progress and conclusions will be announced shortly.

During the meeting the heads of subgroups presented the draft reports of issues. Specifically:

All reports are well advanced and will be finalised within the first quarter of 2006. Reviewers for reports were appointed.
